This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school focuses on students of high academic needs. We are an elementary Title I school. The students within my school reside in a low, socio-economic environment and deal with various personal issues while simultaneously struggling to fulfill academic obligations. My classes incorporate a diverse ethnic mix of students. Students are of African/Black American, Latin, African, and a mix of other ethnic backgrounds. Classes consist of a small percentage of students on grade level and a very large percentage of below grade level students. Classes include special and general education students. In addition, there is an abundance of students who enroll as English Language Learners on all grade levels. I teach differentiated English Language Arts lessons daily within this diverse learning environment.

This year, I will be teaching literacy through theater arts (live instruction combined with remote learning).

I will also be teaching reading intervention at all grade levels (live and remotely). Theater will expose and allow young students to learn through figurative language, story elements, poetry, stage production, puppetry, music, and dance. They will read, write, listen, and speak through dramatic play, which will have a great learning impact on our student's backgrounds.

My Project

For the many students whom I academically impact on a daily basis, this has been an overly trying school year during this era of COVID 19. But most of all, for me it has been difficult attempting to turn my home environment into a mock version of my classroom. Moreover, it has been trying because my work assignment has changed once again this school year due to a lack of qualified teachers. I have been assigned as a 2nd-grade teacher and teacher leader. My focus has been on reading, writing, theater arts, social studies, social-emotional studies, and many other cultural topics.

The materials which I am requesting will help me effectively organize and store my work equipment as well as provide a place to solely plan, prepare, and teach lessons from my home.

I am requesting furniture items such as a computer desk, a computer chair, and an organizer rack to store my printers. The computer desk and chair will help create a more classroom type setting for me when I am conducting online research and for when I am teaching my students remotely. I am requesting a laptop stand so that I can be mobile and work safely with my laptop when I am away from my computer desk. I am also requesting laminated educational alphabet and number posters to use as a tool to support my students when I am teaching them online.

I am seeking funding for these items so that I can set up a work area in my home so that I will no longer have to share and mix space with my personal items versus my classwork items. Please help me prepare an at-home teaching and learning environment that mocks my in-class environment.
