Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In preparation for an uncertain reopening of in-classroom teaching and the possibilities that are being presented at the state and district level, I feel compelled to continue adapting my lessons and prepare myself as much as possible to support my students! In addition to distance learning, children are now faced with a lot of confusion surrounding diversity.

Through distance learning, my students and I have held read alouds, collaborative discussions and projects utilizing novel texts.

I would love to be able to have access to social/restorative justice literature that I can incorporate into my language lessons!

My Project

The first months of distance learning have motivated me to be more prepared for this coming fall. As I adapted my lessons to distance learning, I realized that it was important for my students to learn about social justice issues and become strong advocates for themselves and their fellow student community.

Reading cultural books that they can relate to and share online will support their reading and their collaboration, while creating a safe and inclusive space while they are distance learning.

As educators, it is crucial that teachers incorporate social justice literature in our classrooms! This is a must for all classrooms!
