By the end of the year my students should be able to count coins up to a dollar and know the meaning of saving, earning, and spending. Students will the money Hot Dots Quiz Cards, board games and a pocket chart about money during centers to gain knowledge in financial literacy.
My students are first graders in a school that encourages independent learning through play.
This is my first year teaching and I'm preparing my classroom for my new students. My school is a Title 1 school and the materials would be a helpful resource for my kids to use while learning.
My Project
My students will use the materials during their centers in groups of 4. I will also use the materials with a small group that I feel needs more one on one help in identifying coins and their value. My kids will be able to practice counting money, identify coins, and defining money as earned income playing the allowance game. It is also important that they know the definition of earning, saving and spending. Financial Literacy is part of our TEKS and curriculum and I plan for my students to gain fluency also in adding coins and money.
I believe these materials will help them be engaged and eager to learn.
My kids would learn while having fun with their groups during centers. These donations would give them a lot of practice in financial literacy especially in learning how to count money.
