This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember reading a novel that you could not put down and when you finally finished it, starting it all over again? That is what I am hoping to give to my students through new additions to our classroom library.

Every student deserves the opportunity to be transported to another time and place through literature!

I teach a diverse and enthusiastic group of 8th graders. They are eager to learn about literature and enjoy reading various genres of books. With the advances in technology, they are more likely to turn on the television than open a book. This year we have read novels that they truly enjoyed and were motivated to read.

My Project

These materials will touch students not just in the upcoming school year, but for years to come. Most of my ESL students do not have access to the Internet at home and enjoy borrowing books from our classroom library. Most of the books that I currently have are outdated and because English is not a first language for most of them, most novels are difficult to understand and enjoy. I have requested high interest, low level novels to share the joy of reading with my English Language Learners. These novels are geared to appeal to students through their content and present that content in a manner that meets their reading needs.

Donations to this project will give the students with limited English proficiency the chance to enjoy novels that are on their level.

They will be able to read them both in class and at home.
