My Students

When did you first learn about money and budgeting? For me it wasn't until high school and I want to change that for my students! I want them to understand the value of money in today's economy.

My students are in 3rd grade and attend a charter school.

My class has 13 boys and 14 girls who all get along with each other. They are so funny I have to turn away so they don't see me laugh. They are kind, caring and always putting forth their best effort. They love to read and listen to read-alouds and are excellent at making connections. They also learn best from doing hands-on activities.

My Project

I spend 7 hours a day with my students and within those 7 hours/day, 35 hours/week, we get to know each other very well. The most important thing I have learned about my students thus far is that they learn best from doing hands-on activities. The resources I am requesting are all tied to the idea of financial literacy, however, they will also help my students in other areas of math and literacy. The document reader I have requested will provide better instruction for my students because they will be able to see everything I am doing. Unfortunately my school is unable to provide enough resources for all my students so many have to share. Also, with the money games and budgeting tools I will be able to show my students how valuable money is in today's economy and how to save and budget for their futures. At the end of the year I know my students will be able to have money skills if provided these resources.

I remember being in high school and being shocked to learn that I would have to save money to buy my first car.

I had no idea how to save or budget. I didn't even know how to balance and check my spending. With these tools I have requested I will be able to teach my students these skills and so much more. I will be able to carry these tools into literacy, social studies, and math. Also, with the document reader my students will be able to see all and copy all the information they need to know.
