Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Teachers are no longer the gatekeepers of knowledge." My students learn everyday to be resourceful, problem solvers, and use technology to access information and build knowledge.

Students at my school have diverse backgrounds, abilities, and experiences.

However, they all share the same enthusiasm for multimedia activities and technology. They are very inquisitive about exploring new technology and quite technological savvy for their young age. Even if they don't have a computer or Internet at home, they do manage to get their little hands on their parents' or siblings' smartphones. They are always talking about the latest YouTube video and downloading apps to play games. However, they hardly ever use technology for learning! My school's technology resources are very limited, and my district's restrictions to authorized district websites greatly limit the access to free internet multimedia resources to use in the classroom. BrainPop is a great source of curriculum-based videos, and interactive activities that cover a great variety of topics and subjects. Access to multimedia resources will support my students learning.

My Project

Learning multiple subjects and concepts in school can be overwhelming. BrainPop will boost my students engagement by providing instructional content using animation, graphics, audio, text, and interactive quizzes and games. My students will be able to gain background knowledge on different historical events essential to understand grade level standards for social studies. Through graphics and animation, students will be able to understand complex scientific concepts such as the water cycle or rock cycle. Creating opportunities for students to talk and interact with each other is a fundamental part of our learning in my classroom, my students will have multiple opportunities to engage in discussions to talk about their understanding or clarify information during and after watching BrainPop's short videos. Brain Pop will encourage vivid and enthusiastic academic conversations in my classroom.

Children live in a technological world and they are used to being exposed to information in multiple modalities.

BrainPop will be used in my classroom on a daily basis to review information, support understanding of complex concepts, and build background knowledge. BrainPop will increase interaction among my students and boost interest when learning about multiple subjects.
