This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Thank you for taking the time to read about my students and our classroom. This year I am working with 12 very unique, 3rd grade special education students. They all have their own needs and learn in their own unique ways. Because this is my first year in a self-contained classroom (class of only special education students), and I am striving to do my best to make sure they all are able to learn and feel comfortable within our classroom.

My students come from all different areas.

I have two students who speak primarily Spanish in a monolingual English classroom. Some of my students live in a shelter and/or are labeled "homeless." I try to create an environment for them to feel equal and for each of them to believe they can learn.

My Project

These materials would benefit my students greatly. My students, who I often call my kids, like to learn in different ways. Many of them prefer to not sit on the rug; however, in a small classroom it is very difficult to have 12 students bring over their chair to the meeting area. Therefore, these cushion seats will be greatly appreciated for each one of my students.

Although my students are in third grade, many of them are reading and writing below grade level.

The sight words activity will not only improve their reading and writing but encourage them to do it in a fun-filled way. Similarly, in 3rd grade we love "juicy words" or vocabulary words; I do not want to hear "the game is fun," but "the game is exhilarating!"

In third grade math, learning multiplication and division is essential. The multiplication game will not only review the multiplication facts, but allow students to have fun and will also benefit students with ADHD. Thank you, in advance, for all your love and support to our classroom!
