My Students

My students are curious learners and emerging young adults with special education needs. They are dominantly English Language Learners and from low SES households. They all have active Special Education IEPs with a wide range of disabilities, such as Intellectual Disability, Autism, and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. The majority of my students do not know how to read. I provide speech and language services to them. During this past year in distance learning, they have seen and heard so much about what is happening around the world and our country, including social justice and health reform. Due to Covid-19, they have been in distance learning for a year now and now in hybrid learning.

My students are dominantly Latino and/or Hispanic and English Language Learners.

Despite their speech and language impediments, they are strong, resilient, and come to speech therapy with enthusiasm.

My Project

With the Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards I will buy materials for hybrid learning for my speech therapy students. This will include fun and colorful speech and language worksheets that can be used as arts and crafts to help develop their speech and language skills while engaging a variety of sensory experiences simultaneously (e.g., visual and tactile), and also digital resources such as Boom Cards, that will make learning online fun and engaging. All of these materials will help my students reach their speech and language goals, which ultimately gives them access to their curriculum. My students will love using this materials and feel rewarded while making progress toward their goals at the same time.
