This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hello, my children are special not only by being survivors of the recent flood but because they come from low income households. Their neighborhoods are also low income and have a lot of gang involvement. Their parents work just to make ends meet and are gone for the majority of the day at work. Their families are immigrants from other countries who have come to ours for a better life. They are mainly Spanish speaking children learning English as a second language. Our school has a program in place that we use to help children learn English. It is a 2 hour block all in English, and my children try to speak to the other classmates in English if they can. We do this everyday to easy them into speaking English and get them ready for Kindergarten and for the state exams they will encounter in 3rd grade and on.

My Project

Having this laptop will help me in my Pre-K classroom with my Pre-K students. In addition to the district assessments we administer three times a year, I keep other records of my students development throughout the school year. Being able to have a mobile device to help administer assessments and make notes will allow me to assess my students at their level in spaces where they are comfortable rather than a teacher desk with a desktop computer. This will make my students feel comfortable in showing their learning and help me to really know how to teach and help them learn.
