This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are just another group of dedicated, hard-working teachers in the Bronx whose school has not had it in the budget in decades to invest in our teachers' planning room.

Our school serves over 400 students, half of whom are English Language Learners and/or Special Education students.

Here, students study in a school with a caring international staff and students from many countries of the world. 

We want a need a comfortable place where we can collaborate and sit together in peace. 10 new chairs would make this 20+ year dream a reality.

My Project

We are a staff of approximately 30 teachers and are only looking for 10 new chairs for our teachers' room. In so many ways, having chairs that are comfortable and clean will impact our practice, our enthusiasm for teaching, and our students' learning.

In this room, all of our school's teachers collaborate, co-plan, and share their knowledge of the students with one another, and the outcome of all of this is enhanced student learning.

However, the oversized, broken, grimed-up and dirty chairs make it difficult to sit 10 teachers around a small rectangular table. Every day during period 2, it is a struggle for me, my student teacher, my grade level teachers, and all my other colleagues. Some teachers (myself included) refuse to sit in certain chairs because of their permanent broken, gross state. And thus, many teachers leave the lounge and go sit in their classroom.

Over the years, more and more teachers seek refuge in their own classroom because sitting in these chairs is uncomfortable. It is less likely that we will plan together when we are not seated around the same table.

A clean home is a happy home, and comfortable teachers' planning is a productive teachers' lounge. Help us create a space where we can co-plan, collaborate, and create greater learning outcomes for our students!
