My Students

I have been teaching upper elementary grades for only a few years now and will be attending many trainings to dive deeper into my own professional development in the areas of teaching gifted students, language arts, and technology.

I have been teaching elementary school for 15 years and recently I have transitioned to teaching older students.

I am the GATE coordinator at my school and attend many gifted trainings throughout the year. I am also responsible for facilitating trainings at my school site. I will be attending many GATE trainings this spring and summer and some will include the use of technology in the classroom, which is where I need to grow the most professionally. Many trainings emphasize the importance of incorporating technology in the classroom. I am in need of this technology to learn, to grow professionally, and then be able to teach it to my students. As an elementary educator, I am responsible for teaching all subject areas. Teaching language arts using common core standards requires me to grow professionally through attending trainings and reading books. I am excited to grow as a professional and to again become a student.

My Project

The iPad that I am requesting will be used at the trainings that I am currently signed up for through my district. I will be able to download the apps that we will be learning about in the trainings and practice using them so that I can effectively teach them to my students. I will be able to take notes throughout the year at our onsite professional development meetings as well. I will also be able to use the iPad to research curriculum to supplement what the district provides and make the lessons more engaging for my students. The professional development books were carefully chosen because they are areas I would truly like to grow in as a professional. Whether it is differentiating projects for students that are gifted, teaching reading comprehension for understanding, managing challenging behavior, or incorporating technology into my classroom, all these books will allow me to develop as a stronger teacher and help my students grow academically.

My students will have technology incorporated into the classroom though an iPad because they will have a trained teacher with a tool to teach them.

My gifted students will be able to created differentiated products. I will be able to reach my students with challenging behaviors through learning about interventions that work. My students will have better strategies to comprehend text because I will have learned to teach them through understanding and engagement.
