I am a first grade teacher at a low income school for L.A.U.S.D. and I am in need of a classroom rug. Rug time in first grade is very important because that's where most of the learning takes place. To meet the needs of certain students, I usually assign a specific spot on the rug for each child. For example, a child that may have a hard time paying attention will sit in the front, while a child who is able to focus without my guidance will seat in the back. However, every year, the children will forget where they were supposed to sit or they will complain that one of their classmates is invading his/her space. The rug I have now is full of small areas to play games, like, hopscotch, checkers, or marbles. This makes it is difficult to assign spots for each child. Normally, I put a piece of tape with their name on it so they can remember where to sit, but after a week, the tape disappears and I have to re-tape it. I have found a rug that is color coded and has an outlined box for each student to sit on. Since there is so much transitioning in first grade, I will be able to assign a color to each student which will cause less confusion. Also, the rug will help them remember what their boundaries are, since it has outlined boxes. With your donation, it will assist me on classroom management, provide easier transitions, and will be used for several years to come.
