Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Teacher, Teacher, I’m done! What can I do now? This is the question that I have heard endless amount of times in my 4th grade classroom. I work at a Title 1 school with a wide range of abilities among the students, including those who are English Language Learners. When students finish their assignments early I am faced with the inevitable question of what I should allow them to do. It wouldn’t be fair to give them more work just because they finished early, yet it also wouldn’t be fair to let them play around and distract others. The solution that I have come across fits in a little of both....educational games. Allowing students to quietly play these comprehension and math games when they are finished with their work gives them extra practice on the skills they need help with, while keeping them engrossed in a game like atmosphere. This will also give me the time I need as a teacher to help those students that need extra assistance, while motivating those who tend to take longer on their assignments. The prospect of playing a game will encourage them to work harder, so that they can participate in the fun. Educational games will be specifically helpful to my English Language Learners by allowing them to learn in a more relaxing environment.
