This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students at our school love to learn! They enjoy reading, but sometimes struggle to read on grade level. They are into sports and technology. We are a one to one school, so children are able to learn electronically. They enjoy researching and exploring apps.
Our school has a wonderful school-wide community.
We are like a family and everyone watches out for each other. It is not uncommon to see an older student helping a kindergartener tie their shoe in the hallway.
My Project
As teachers it is critical that we are constantly keeping ourselves current and up to date in our practice. We need to be knowledgeable about the best way to reach our students. I have been working on intentionally planning my language in order to be more efficient with my time and set clear expectations. The book Think Big With Think Alouds will help me plan my language and be purposeful with my book selection. The Jennifer Serravallo book will help me work on my reading conferences. I am hopeful that her book will have new ideas that will help me build up readers.
