This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day begins with my students coming in and enjoying our program of breakfast in the classroom. We review our schedule for the day and break off into learning groups comprised of the two grade levels in my class. We work in small groups for most of the day.

I have worked as an educator for about 9 years now.

I began working as a general education teacher in Miami Florida. I moved to California and soon began working as a special education teacher for LAUSD. I worked on my credential as part of a district funded internship program. I currently teach a primary special day class at Victory Elementary; a title 1 school in the San Fernando Valley.

My Project

I have recently enrolled in university classes in order to advance and grow my technological skills. These courses are centered around iPads in the classroom. I think it would be beneficial for me as an educator to have an iPad for my own use in my classroom. I'm gaining knowledge about how to integrate tools and resources on the iPads into my special education classroom and daily lesson plans. I plan on becoming familiar with applications such as Guided Access to modify communication systems for my classroom, and iBooks Author which would allow me to create books for my student's reading levels, that still remain high interest to them. I require an iPad so that I may explore these and many other applications and develop lesson plans and projects through hands on interaction with the device.

With this project, I will be able to grow and develop my current skills in technology.

This resource would help build and strengthen my ability to create engaging and innovative lessons. Through project based learning such as the lessons I would develop with the use of this iPad, I would be able to meet the needs of my very diverse group of learners. I will be able to learn and explore a variety of tools available through the device and build them into my teaching practice.
