Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our day starts with my students coming in and enjoying breakfast in the classroom. We sing along to our morning songs and then work together to complete our calendar routine. We then break up into our groups run by myself and the classroom aides. We spend most of our day working in learning groups.

I am a special education teacher working for a Title 1 school in the San Fernando Valley.

I work with special needs children with mild to severe disabilities. I received my BA and Education Specialist Teaching Credential from Cal State Northridge and I have been working as a teacher with the Los Angeles Unified School District for 4 years now. Before that I worked as a special education assistant for close to 5 years while I attended university.

My Project

I am currently enrolled in university courses to help improve my skills in technology. These courses focus on the use of iPads in the classroom, so I am requesting an iPad for professional development. I am learning about various tools and resources found on iPads and how to fully integrate technology into my daily lesson plans. I plan on using apps such as iBook to develop creative presentations for unit themes, or presenting vocabulary word studies. I also plan on using apps such as iMovie to compile student presentations which would promote the use of expressive language. In order to further my own development of technological skills as an educator, I require an iPad so that I may personally explore these applications and develop lessons and activities through hands on interaction with the device.

This project will help me grow and develop my skills in technology.

It would strengthen my ability to create and develop innovative and engaging lessons that would cater to the needs of my students with social and learning disorders. Having my own iPad will allow me the opportunity to learn and explore tools, techniques, lesson ideas, and incorporate them into my lesson plans. My students will benefit from these new lesson plans that feature and highlight the importance of technology today.
