This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so lucky to spend my days with 25 of the most curious, kind, gregarious, and inspiring first graders I've ever known. They enter my classroom wide-eyed and eager to learn every day. With such a motivated group of learners, my days are so fun and rewarding as a teacher.

My students do not let obstacles stand in their way.

Our school is over 90% free/reduced lunch receiving students, but their attitudes would never give you any indication of that. My students do not let such things define them; they are hard workers, inquisitive thinkers, and tenacious learners. Our school works tirelessly to strive for greatness, and I aim to embody this ideal in my classroom every day. I keep high expectations for my students, and they still manage to surprise me with their incredible achievements every lesson.

All children are deserving of a world-class education, and my students are no exception. Quality school supplies to enable and enhance their learning can be great financial hardships for my students' families. This is why I am asking for your help.

My Project

As you can imagine, my first grade classroom uses a lot of the essentials in our day to day lessons and activities...glue, scissors, crayons, tape, tissues... Those supplies go fast! With 25 students, our supplies have depleted. We need a restock!

At our Title I, 96% free/reduced lunch school, school supplies can be a financial burden on the families of the students I teach.

Therefore, I am asking for your help. Please help my students gain access to the basic school supplies that they so desperately need.

First graders LOVE coloring, and we need some more crayons! Right now they are coloring with tiny bits of old crayons, so new ones would be fantastic for them (and more healthy for their developing hand muscles). We are all out of white glue, so I will be using the gallon jugs to refill our glue bottles. We are in need of scissors. Right now, students are sharing, but it takes up time to have students wait for each other to finish cutting. Having a class set would be such a blessing for us. We are in need of individual tape dispensers as well as sticky notes, since we just started Writer's Workshop and these items are needed in the program. With all of the recent cold and flus, we are out of tissues, so having more boxes of tissues would save my students' noses (right now they are using rough paper towels).
