My Students

"Using technology inspires student excitement for learning." I teach a class of diverse, energetic and eager to learn 5th graders who love technology. They all come from single-parent homes who struggle to make ends meet; the spark in their eyes when I use any kind of technology tells me they are not used to using these devices at home, hence the need to continuously use technology to drive instruction in order to help them succeed.

My Project

All students can learn, however, not in the same way or at the same time but once provided with the opportunities to learn, given their disabilities and deficiencies and with the use of the universal design for learning, I am optimistic that every student will learn at one point or another. Teaching differentiated lessons through the use of technology such as the smart board, an Elmo and the use of teacher-made anchor charts coupled with laminated materials that they can use and reuse will provide them with a classroom filled with a plethora of resources for them to succeed. The Elmo will be used as an instructional tool that will be used to grab and maintain students' attention since most of my students are visual learners; the laminate machine will be used to laminate the materials students will use during independent or group time; and finally, the chart paper will be used to create anchor charts that will be posted around the classroom so students can use for reference when needed. With a print-rich classroom and with the technology available for use by the teacher, the students will be more engaged in their learning.
