My Students

Every day my students rush into my classroom excited to build our classroom community into a family. Our classroom is a safe place for them to explore learning and grow into college and career ready learners!

All of my students are English Language Learners and they are all also diagnosed with Autism.

My students live in an area of highest poverty in town and 100% of the students at our school receive a free lunch at our Title 1 school. Despite these challenges, my students are amazing kids! Many of them have significant behavioral issues that impact instruction for themselves and their classmates and they need materials to support their behavior and learning!

My Project

I have a passion to grow and develop as an educator. Professional development books are expensive and our district restricts training to secondary teachers. I would love to deepen and broaden my knowledge so that I can grow passionate readers in my classroom!

I want my students to find joy in reading.

I have picked these specific books because they focus on teaching students in a differentiated, small group setting, based on similar skills and needs. This will allow me to focus and target on the skills my struggling readers need most to thrive! The strategies they focus on are fun, easy to implement, adaptable, and research-based.

One of the outcomes I hope to gain from these books goal is to increase purposeful independent reading time inside and outside the classroom. These books will help with setting goals with my students, instead of for them, and I truly believe this kind of partnership will be life-changing in my instruction!
