Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Dear Donor, I teach a 12:1 second grade special education bilingual class in a high-needs community school in the Bronx, NY.

The children in my class are growing by leaps and bounds. When we started this school year, many of them were still reading on a Kindergarten level and their writing was non-existent. All of a sudden, the majority of them are testing on late-first grade, beginning second grade reading levels and they are writing (or at least attempting it) on their own!

I would really love to have more resources with which to continue the children's new-found love of writing. The writing transparencies will help me introduce writing concepts to the class and model what they need to do while we are all working together. The writing center caddies, writing center and writing response notebooks, will help the children work independently to develop their writing skills. I am beginning to treat them as third graders since they are in the final stretch of their second grade year, and these materials will help prepare them for future grades, as well as their state exams next year.

Your help will enable my students to become better writers. Writing is a skill that they will need for the rest of their lives. Your generosity will have a lasting impact on these children in second grade and beyond. Thank you very much for your help!
