Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a teacher at a low income high poverty school. 80% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. While my students are bright and inquisitive, my students often do not perform at the level of students from higher socioeconomic schools due to their lack of exposure to a variety of experiences. This year they have also have endured hardships due to Hurricane Harvey. My students lag behind academically in all subject areas even with their best efforts.

As the technology gap grows wider each day and more schools embrace online learning, my students fall further and further behind.

In my classroom, I look for ways to bring the world to THEM through Technology every day and put the world at their fingertips. I want to make a difference in their lives from now and help even out the playing field before they get to middle and high school before the gap becomes too great.

My Project

My students will engage in online learning through Schoology. My students will navigate and surf the WWW with the latest apps that will provide them with enriching experiences such as online communities with students from our sister school, virtual field trips and reteaching videos and activities created by myself.

These experiences are currently unavailable to them from their homes due to economic hardship, lack of internet connectivity and hardware.

The only place where they currently experience this is using my iPads in my classroom which are severely outdated. With more iPads in my classroom my students will take control and ownership of their learning which will lead towards better collaboration skills with their peers, higher retention of lessons and and in return higher performance at school.
