My Students

Public Service program students are the most resilient, kind, and grateful teens you'll ever met. We've seen so many community members here lose their lives to COVID-19, alongside the other daily threats to this community: violence, over-policing, poverty, and environmental hazards to name a few. They continue to come to school every day between helping their families with income and childcare, and they do this with the best attitudes. I've never been more impressed with the resilience of a group of young people as I am with my students in the public service program.

When asked what they are grateful for, you will never hear a Public Service student start their list with any material objects; instead, you will hear, "My family, my friends, my school, our teachers, my home, food on the table." These students are so humble and kind, and deserve all of the resources we can offer them to help them head off into adulthood with success.

Help me offer them a skill they can take with them as a career path and entry point into the booming entertainment industry right in their backyards in South LA by putting professional photography technology in their hands!

My Project

We are offering Digital Photography to our students for the first time at this school. While we are able to get a good amount of equipment, it takes a lot to fully fund a high quality digital art class. We don't have space at our school for a full computer lab with desktop Macs so we are trying to make it work with more mobile equipment as we are sharing the classroom with the traditional art classes.

Please help us take our class up a notch to get these kids top of the line equipment so they can put their learned skills straight onto professional resumes!

As we don't have space for desktops, and Chromebooks cannot run Adobe software, we will need Mac Books so that students can learn Photoshop and Lightroom. This will allow us to make extended us of our classroom space and AP art students will also be able to utilize these computers for creating digital art pieces for their AP portfolio submissions!

Please help us get started towards a full set of laptops by helping us get our first 5 computers.
