This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Lake Air Montessori is very special because it is Waco's only public Montessori school! It is one of the biggest public Montessori schools in Texas, serving students from Pre-k3-8th grade. We are a Title I magnet school with a focus on environmental science, serving a diverse student population from all over the city! Lake Air has chickens, gardens, goats, aquaponics and even an environmental science specials class! Primary grade educators have a three-year cycle with our students (Pre-K3, Pre-K4 and Kinder). I love getting to make lasting connections with my students and their families!

My Project

This year I want to implement tea parties with my students. Hosting a tea party gives children a brilliant way to put into practice the important lessons of grace and courtesy. It also gives children a real and authentic opportunity to learn and share a variety of practical life skills including food preparation, pouring, spooning, serving, flower arranging, and table setting. In addition, it will encourage writing skills as the children create menus, invitations and signs! Each student would be invited to one tea party a year. This project would be used by 22 students each year and every year moving forward! The skills taught to our students during these tea parties will be used beyond their primary years and throughout their life!
