My Students

Imagine walking into a Special Education Kindergarten classroom of motivated and diverse little learners. Their five and six year old minds are constantly moving and ready for the next new learning experience. My Kindergarten students are eager to learn and grow in their first year of elementary school. They are constantly wanting to move around and my goal for my little learners is to provide them with that opportunity to move and learn.

They are engaged more when they can move around the room to read a book or build with shapes in the math centers with their learning friends.

Their busy bodies need exploration throughout the kindergarten classroom to engage in meaningful conversations about their new findings. My students are fascinated with the world of learning around them each day. Their positivity is contagious and they look forward to each day as they walk in the door and with each passing day they are ready for more!

My Project

My students love to move their little bodies throughout the day. In my special education friendly classroom many of my students need to move while learning. They have shared that sitting in a seat or on the rug doesn't help them learn. Their bodies "get tired" or "they need to stretch." They have come across wobble chairs and shared how these chairs will help them learn and stay on task. It will help them keep their body moving in a positive way while learning or engaging with a center.

They will be moving their little bodies for over 60 minutes a day during small group instruction with lessons that are tailored to their levels.

They will be able to use this flexible seating to stay on task while reading books independently and while partner reading with a peer. These items will allow my students to stay active while learning. The movement will help keep them engaged and on the task.

Their busy bodies long for movement throughout the day in addition to our daily routine body breaks, music movement and educational games that promote body movement.

These materials will provide them with more time to move. They will be able to feed their mind and body at the same time with the wobble chairs.
