My Students

Do you remember what it was like to get excited about a project, only to find out you can't afford the materials? We want to tell the rest of the country what it is like down here on the Gulf Coast. We HAD beautiful white beaches, Now we have TAR. We would like to document this disaster .

We are an inner city school.

98% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. There are few opportunities for these children . We live on the Gulf Coast. The oil spill is all that is in the news here. Some of my families have lost jobs, because of the lack of tourists coming.

My Project

At eight years old there is very little you can do in a situation like this. I want to help the children understand what has happened and express their feelings, frustrations, and ideas. I have a camera for them to use, but simple things like printer ink and paper are not available to us.

Looking at our environment, and how our beautiful Gulf Coast has been scared by this oil spill, I see a need for my children to look into their future.

What happened, why, what are all the effects, what can we do now and in the future.
