My Students

"Every student can LEARN just not on the same day or in the same way." George Evans. Every day I am faced with the challenge of reaching each individual student but it becomes even more challenging when I have to reach them in one group with different grade levels.

My school is in a low social economic neighborhood in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

Most of my school population live in public housing from single family homes. Statistics for this area reveal low graduation rates. I am a special education teacher who has to provide special education support services to the entire school from grades K-8th. By law my groups cannot exceed more than 8 students and no more than 3 grade levels. For example, I have a group with 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders. Our schools budget does not give us the opportunity to hire another SETSS teacher, which leaves me servicing students with multiple grades in one group. We all know that each student learn differently and require differentiated instruction to reach their needs but without having the resources I'm in a sinking boat. My students are eager to receive extra support services in ELA and Math, but as a teacher I feel I can reach them even more if I had the option of having IPads as another resource.

My Project

This is why I am asking for 2 ipads that can assist my students in tapping into their own learning. If my students have two ipads I can use them for one grade while I reach the needs of my other 2 grades in one group. The students can use programs that my school has purchased to enrich their reading and math skills. I will be able to reach more students with apps and books geared to any grade level or subject.

Having 2 ipads donated can improve my classroom because I would be able to differentiate by tapping into their own learning through technology.

My students will have the opportunity to learn through technology and will be more motivated and eager to participate and enjoy using an IPad. The iPad will enable endless opportunities to create hands-on customizable learning experiences.
