My Students

My mathematicians come into my classroom wanting to learn more. They come in as explorers, inquisitors, challengers, and most of all, learners. Math isn't simply an algorithm in my classroom, and my students know this and embrace this.

The main message that I want my students to know is that math is everywhere.

We constantly challenge each other to find the math in every day life, through projects, research, history, and conversation. By the time my mathematicians leave in June, they have a better understanding of the role that math plays in our world.

My Project

By giving my students access to iPads in the classroom, they are able to research, explore, practice, skill-build, and build confidence in math.

Students are tech savvy.

Their internet skills are second to none. By putting iPads in the hands of my students, they have more access to further their understanding of our class message that Math is Everywhere. They can research and put together a shopping list for a budgeted family dinner, they can understand how ancient Egyptians saw fractions in a different way than we do, and they can practice and skill-build their way through the Prodigy app.
