My Students

Help the world of tall tales and folktales come to life in our classroom

My fourth grade class is made up of 31 mixed ability students.

Many of the students in my class are English as a second language learners. They are hardworking and eager to learn new things. My school is a title one school and all of our students get free breakfast and lunch. We have over 40 languages spoken in our school.

My Project

We have been reading tall tales and folktales. These new books would help us to experience more tall tales and folktales. These books would be placed in the library for independent reading as well as for read aloud. Having more books to read will help deepen our understanding of this genre. We will explore hyperbole or exaggerations as well as similes and metaphors. This will help our writing as well as our reading skills. We will use the sheet protectors to help us be able to write on handouts that will assist us in our study. We will use the post-it notes to jot our thoughts as we read. The bookmarks make a great motivation for reading.

These books will help to build excitement about our tall tale and folktale unit as well as foster a love of reading.

By exploring a new genre my class will have a better appreciation for tall tales and the skills necessary to be a good reader and writer. We appreciate your help and can not wait to get our project funded.
