Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Independent Study students meet with me once per week for instruction, collaboration, practice and assessment of skills in 3 to 4 classes at a time. They start the next set of 3-4 classes half way through the semester, to complete 6 classes per semester. If they have the academic ability to do more, they can make up credits as well.

Our students attend Independent Study school for a variety of reasons, such as the need to work or care for a family member.

Some students have health issues, or are student athletes and actors, and others are students who find the traditional school setting challenging.

Students will benefit from exposure to a variety of artworks, and the opportunity to discuss what they see, how it is arranged, and what meaning might be communicated. Scholastic Art magazine has been a great motivating factor for students struggling with writing.

My Project

I want to invite students to take risks when making guesses about the art work of others as well as their own. This publication provides several examples of art works on the same theme, and features photos of studio projects from other students around the country.

The reading selections are interesting and motivate students to look at the world around them with a finer lens, and to perceive their world and be able to talk about it.

Student often tell me they don't know how to express something. Talking about art is a great way to build these communication skills.
