This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"We all love stories. Telling stories about our personal and family's lives is the foundation for teaching fundamental values to our children. Hearing stories expands imagination, comprehension skills, and knowledge of the world around them. Children are often shaped by stories."

I am a Pre-K teacher to 18 wonderful children in New York City.

The children I teach are loving, imaginative, funny, creative, honest, determined and sweet. Most of the children come from low-income families who are struggling to make ends meet. Many of the children do not have their own collection of picture books at home so I want to make books available to them at school. I have been sending two books a week home with each child. The parents are working with me and see the importance of reading to their children daily. Parents have a big impact on their children as reading role models. My parents are interested in education and see the importance of reading to their children. They work with me and know that their attitude and involvement can make a big difference in their child's education. Parents and teachers have a big impact on children as reading role models.

My Project

I am requesting an assortment of 15 different books for our preschool classroom. Our classroom library has a limited number of books and I would like to add books that I know will appeal to the children. I have taught early childhood grades for twenty-six years and know the picture books the children will enjoy. I have selected books that capture a child's imagination and interest. The books I have chosen will keep the children turning pages. I believe that children will desire to become life long readers if they are exposed early to books that appeal to them. Young children love books and to be read to. Please help me in my endeavor to enrich their lives with good literature. I would also like to give each child a book after reading a series of "Pete the Cat."

Our classroom has a limited number of books and I would like to add books that I am positive will appeal to the children.

Books that will capture a child's imagination and interest. We are also in need of workbooks that will help solidify the learning of early childhood skills in literacy. My goal is to provide an enriching environment where a love of learning and reading can be instilled in all of the children in my care. Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal.
