My Project

Many of my students are dealing with grief and trauma. It's important to me that they have an area in our classroom where they are able to reflect, regroup, and restore. In this area, they will have a choice of using sensory toys that can help them to relax and stay calm or completing puzzles, reading books, writing or ... A timer is used so that they will not stay in the area for extended times. However, they are able to ask for more time if needed.

I believe that by having this warm and inviting area with a bookshelf that contains a variety of sensory items and beanbag chairs, students will be able to self-regulate, manage impulses, and communicate their thoughts/feelings.

Having this safe, beautiful, and comfortable area will allow them to choose positive options to self-soothe and deter them from creating classroom disruptions. It can also help to decrease conflict within the classroom and allow students to continue learning. It's crucial that we create and maintain classrooms that are safe and conducive to learning. We hope that you find it in your heart to contribute to our area. It is truly a need in our classroom.
