Our high school is what most places call a "magnet school." Students come from all over the city take a test in order to attend. Our high school is arguably the most racially diverse with about 1/4 of our students being African-American, Asian, Latino, and white.
More than 50% the students are from families below the federal poverty level.
Nonetheless we have a 100% college acceptance rate. Our students work hard, but they need more than what the district provides.
My Project
Our classroom temperature starts in the low 70 and reaches the mid 80 by lunchtime. Our build is nearly 100 years old and made out of brick. It retains heat very, very well.
The first and last two month of the school year can yield terrible teaching/learning conditions.
The heat zaps the energy of the students and reduces their productivity considerably.
My goal is to place one AC unit at each end of the classroom. Not only will the two ACs cool down the room, but coming from you the students will know that the adults do care about their successes.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
