Parent participation is essential to a child's success in school. One way to encourage parental involvement is to make sure parents receive important notices from me and from the school as well as have a consistent system for sending home homework and reading books for the children. I am asking for a donation of heavy duty school-to-home pocket organizers for my class to help create this system. My Kindergarten class of a little more than 20 students at Public school 158 in Brooklyn as well as the parents will benefit from these take-home folders. As a Kindergarten teacher I need to do my best to ensure that I have a system for sending home information because it is sometimes difficult for such young children to remember to give their parents important information. The school-to-home folders will provide an organized way to send home homework and information so parents will always know where to look and will not miss any important classroom news. This organized system will encourage more parental participation as parents will be more likely to come to school for meetings and workshops if they see the notices. Parents will also always know where to find the homework and reading books, so that they can reinforce skills learned at school that day with the children. Furthermore, these folders will help children learn how to organize their materials. I am kindly asking for a donation of these school-to-home folders which will foster parent involvement and keep children organized.
