This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are having difficulty reading. I would like a nonfiction leveled library so my students can borrow books to take home and read.
My students are third graders who attend school in the Bronx.
Many of my students do not get the opportunity to visit the library. Many do not have books at home to read. Others have books but the books are not matched to their reading level. Often the books are too difficult and the students get frustrated and give up reading. The nonfiction leveled library will foster a positive reading experience because the book is matched to the students' reading level. This will promote the joy of reading. In addition to reading the book, each student will keep a response journal and write about what they have learned.
My Project
The nonfiction leveled library would help foster my students to read at home. Many of my students do not have books to read outside of school. The leveled library would allow my students to choose a "just right" book. I have found it to be very helpful pairing my students with a "just right" book. This is a book that is matched to the student's reading level. It is a book that is not too hard or too easy for the student to read. The student would be able to read independently. The nonfiction books will help to improve their reading and increase their knowledge of various topics.
This is a very important project.
Please help to make a difference in a child's life. Reading is a skill that all children need. My students are excited about the opportunity to borrow books to bring home. Please donate what you can, any small amount is appreciated. You can make a difference!
