My Students

"Do we get to take this home?" is a question I hear on a daily basis from my students. They absolutely love the books and materials that are in our classroom and desperately wish they could take them home.

I teach in one of the fastest growing areas of South Carolina.

My neighborhood school houses children from kindergarten to 5th grade. Many of the children walk to school from the surrounding neighborhoods. I teach an eager group of kindergarten students that just don't slow down! They want to learn and explore and soak up all that they can from life. Within my school district, our school has the second highest free/reduced lunch population.

My Project

While I can provide many learning opportunities for my students while they are in my classroom, I unfortunately don't have the same power for when they go home. By funding this project, you will be providing each one of my students with a school-to-home organizer! This is a durable, double sided, plastic pouch that will enable me to send home books and manipulatives and projects. I can be sure that whatever goes home in these pouches will be kept safe and will be used! The children will use the pouches four nights a week for take home books. Two nights will be books that I choose to send home for them on their level and the other two they will choose from my library based on their interests.

Help me extend the power of learning through my classroom materials into the homes of my 24 kindergarten students.

I am positive that their reading skills (among others) will greatly improve by having these materials with them at home each night of the week.
