Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, curious and eager three to five-year-olds. They are mostly Latino and African American, and most qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of my students are English Language Learners, and in school for the first time. Last year my classroom became a blended classroom, meaning I have a full-time Special Education teacher as a partner in the room, and almost a third of our students have Individual Education Plans, and thus are Diverse Learners. My students are at a disadvantage due to their lack of resources at home, language challenges, single-parent homes, limited education completed by parents, and experiences outside their community. I love these children and want to help them overcome these challenges.

My Project

Dramatic Play is an important part of Early Childhood education. Children increase their vocabulary skills, interact with a common purpose, resolve conflicts and solve problems while having fun in our dramatic play area.

These activities allow them to mimic scenarios from home, helping them understand and process their experiences, strengthening their social and emotional skills.

Social Emotional skill are the cornerstone to being successful in both academic settings, and in the real world.

Providing my students with rich activities, connecting to their real-world experiences, will strengthen them in their social emotional skill set. Please help me help my wonderful students.
