Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is the only one of its kind at the school, teaching Computer Sciences from a accredited Curriculum (Teals from Microsoft). Our CS program is part of both the Math and STEM department of the school. I know my students can succeed. I have seen design and ingenuity displayed over and over again. Many of my students have been handicapped, and not given the tools to succeed.

My school is a set in an urban community, at the heart of the city of Providence.

The students are performing arts major, very talented in music, theater and video production but have to overcome many obstacles. 93 % are minority, 90% percent live in poverty and 20% are facing homelessness.

My Project

The students are currently learning how to code, but having no manipulative. The programming language, python, is the same that is used in the drone. We review the basic code and then test the flights of students code, which can be done at the school or remotely. If they continue or improve, they can even use the drone for the drone racing clubs in MA/RI. We are allowing students to now test their codes, and record the simulations for them to show them the results of their codes. Its a practical applications of computer science and integrated math.
