My Students

When are you the most productive? When you are comfortable and in an environment that is conducive to teamwork. It could be like this for the students in my class.

My students are an absolutely amazing group of third graders that have really been through the ringer.

These students survived Hurricane Sandy when their community and school were so badly devastated. They watched everything that was normal and good get washed away with the unrelenting storm surge. Now they are faced with their next step of this unexpected journey. We are returning to our own school and classroom after eight long weeks. The student desks in our classroom were taken to the host site for use there. All of the extra desks and chairs that were stored in our school basement had to be thrown away (see picture). These new desks would be a great asset to our classroom and school.

My Project

These desks will go a long way in helping to establish "a new normal" in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The desks would be even better than the desks the students had because all of the children would have their own space and be able to see and hear one another clearly. They are comfortable and bright. These desks will provide clear collaborative grouping workspaces that are essential in this stage of academic and social growth.

It is so important for my students to be comfortable so that they can focus on their work.

As a seasoned teacher I know that these desks would be beneficial for all of my students. They will promote an optimal environment for comfort and learning.
