My Students

When are you the most productive? When you are comfortable and in an environment that is conducive to teamwork. It could be like this for the students in my class....

My students are a currently a very large (45), yet absolutely amazing group of third graders that have really been through the ringer.

These students survived Hurricane Sandy when their community and school were so badly devastated. They watched everything that was normal and good get washed away with the unrelenting storm surge. Now they are all together in one classroom at a host school trying to make the best of it until it is safe to return to their own school.

My Project

While all of my students have a chair in this host school, they do not all have their own desk. Many of them are sitting at tables that were not meant to be sat at for entire day. There belongings must be stored in a different location and this constantly interrupts the flow of the lessons. This makes it not very comfortable for them, and when they are uncomfortable that is all they can focus on. They need to be focused on their work. These collaborative grouping desks will be perfect for them. They will be able to have their own space (that is just their size) and they will be a part of a group of other learners. Children do their best learning when they are working together.

It is so important for my students to be comfortable so that they can focus on their work.

As a seasoned teacher I know that these desks would be beneficial for all of my students. They will promote an optimal environment for comfort and learning.
