My Students

My class is made up of a group of 12 young children with special needs. Our school has over 1200 students from diverse backgrounds; more than 20% have special needs. Of those students who have special needs, approximately 10% are on the Autistic Spectrum, have ADD/ADHD and/or have Social and Emotional needs. The students in my class have speech and language disorders, Autism, ADHD/ADD, and learning disabilities. Each student has a uniqueness about them that makes it easy to love spending each day with them, watching them perservere and overcome challenges.

My Project

Do you remember spending hours of school sitting in the same, hard, uncomfortable seat? I sure do and now as a teacher I find students learn best and are happiest when given the option to get up, move around, and take their own seat.

" Flexible seating encourages students to find their bestspot to stay calm, focused and productive." My hope is to give my students the opportunity to find a spot in my classroom where they can do their best and overcome challenges!

Sitting in a chair at a desk isn't always the best way to learn for some of my students; some learn best in a chair that allows them to move easily (for example a rocker) or seated in an area away from distractions. Students will get to choose their seats during various center activities in which they will participate in intervention and enrichment activities daily.
