My Project

Helping my students regulate their emotions is an important part of my job in the classroom. I teach them strategies to calm down such as doing the STAR, drain, pretzel, & balloon breathing techniques. I like for them to practice these and utilize items that help them feel a sense of peace and calm.

Providing sensory items for the Calming Corner in my classroom will help my students regulate their emotions.

Whether they had a disagreement with a friend, are frustrated by a tough math problem, or thinking about something sad, students can spend a few minutes in the comfy chairs to calm their minds and body. Perhaps they'll watch the colorful waterfall beads drop down or create a calming sound with the singing bowl. The sensory bags will provide a chance for them to take a deep breath as they explore the different tactile squares.

My goal for these items is to provide a safe place for them to shift their focus and get back into a positive mindset so that they can join the class again for academics. Everyone needs a moment to take a deep breath and relax during the day!
