Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The items for our calming corner will provide students with a dedicated space to manage their emotions, reduce stress, and refocus, allowing them to return to learning with a clear mind. Many of my students face challenges outside of school due to financial hardships, and having a safe, supportive environment in the classroom helps them regulate their emotions and stay engaged in their education. When students feel emotionally supported, they are better able to concentrate, persist through challenges, and develop the self-regulation skills necessary for academic success.

My goal is to create a nurturing classroom environment where students feel safe, valued, and empowered to manage their emotions.

Many of my students experience stress beyond the classroom due to financial instability, and a calming corner will give them a space to self-regulate and refocus when needed. By providing this resource, I hope to foster a positive learning space that encourages self-awareness, reduces classroom disruptions, and ultimately improves focus and engagement in math.

My students are incredibly resilient, hardworking, and eager to learn, despite facing economic hardships that often create additional challenges in their education. Many come from low-income households where access to resources and stability can be limited, yet they show up every day ready to do their best. Their perseverance and determination inspire me, and I want to provide them with the tools they need—not just academically, but emotionally—to help them thrive and succeed.
