My Students

Building a love of reading starts young! My students are eager to start engaging with books independently, even though they are not ready to read by themselves.

I teach preschool students with speech and language disabilities.

Many students in preschool are able to "read" stories on their own by making up the words based on pictures and memory. But for my students, who struggle to communicate, it can be hard to interact with books by themselves.

My Project

I am requesting a set of two Tag reader pens, protective cases, and a selection of age-appropriate Tag books. Tag readers are special pens that "read" books aloud to students, label things when students point to pictures and words, and often include interactive activities that support the literature selections. In my class, we do a lot of reading together, but many of my students struggle when it comes to reading on their own. These Tag readers and books will help my students engage actively with literature. They will help my students build language skills, a love of reading, and pre-reading skills that will help them become strong readers in Kindergarten and beyond.

All kids deserve the chance to start reading and enjoying literature early!

Students with language disabilities often fall behind in literacy skills, but with your help, we can work to close this gap and put my students on track to be great readers.
