My Project

A few weeks ago, I discussed Arts & Adversity with my students. As part of that lesson, I asked them to write a reflective essay, sharing what situation or event has profoundly impacted them, how they have personally grown, or are trying to grow from it, and how they can use the arts to overcome or cope with the challenges they face.

After reading their responses, I couldn't believe how much weight they carry on their shoulders, at such a young age.

As a human being and educator, their words impacted me greatly and became a call to action. Since then, I have implemented some mindful breathing techniques, however, more education in that area is needed.

As a substitute teacher who works indirectly for the district, I do not receive development or an education stipend. By completing this professional development in Yoga, Social-Emotional Learning/Facilitation, and Mindfulness, I can assist the students in my class and school community, in beginning to learn daily coping techniques that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. As a community, if we can lessen one stressor, the children of Trenton, NJ will have more room to flourish.

Mr. Anthony will only receive funding for his trip if this project is fully funded by October 17.
