This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students from Corona, New York are part of a dual language math pilot program. This program gives English Language Learner the opportunity to learn and become proficient in math through the Spanish and English language with their English speaking peers.

My students understand that speaking two languages will benefit them in their future career paths.

I am a bilingual teacher working in a low-income school with 30 inquisitive and bright students. The majority of my students come from low-income households who have extremely limited access to technology at home. In my classroom we only have two computers, which limits the use of technology in our every day lessons. I would love to incorporate technology during my math workshops to provide my students, who are English Language Learners and proficient English speakers with access to different materials online to become proficient in both English and Spanish.

My Project

This is my first DonorsChoose grant and I am super excited. I will be teaching two dual language classes for the first time. My students are 6th and 7th grade math students that will be receiving math lessons both in English and in Spanish. Dual language is difficult for students who have not achieved mastery in either language.

We are requesting five tablets so that my students can practice and master both English and Spanish.

By incorporating the use of tablets, my students will have the ability to use and hear their language through technology.

I believe incorporating the use of tablets will benefit my students in achieving mastery in both the Spanish and English language.
