My Students

Do you remember how it feels to be reading old books and learning math by memorizing flashcards? It was no fun! My students are learning to read and do math. It is hard for them to find a love for learning when the materials they have are outdated. They need materials they enjoy and connect with.

I teach in a rural community at a Title One school.

It is a Title One school because of the number of students we have who are on free or reduced lunch. I have a class with 20 second grade students between the ages of 7 and 8. The class is filled with various learning needs. This age is so crucial in building the foundation of learning critical skills. We are in dire need of extra support and supplies to help them learn! We have a large school with over 700 students grades K-5. Unfortunately the budget was cut so much in education, we aren't able to get the supplies we need to make learning as successful as we would like. I have several ESL children, who have English as a Second Language, as well as those who have been identified as needing intensive academic support. They need support that we just don't have the financial means to fill. Computer games have been beneficial to their learning. Unfortunately, we just don't have enough to foster the type of learning that they need.

My Project

Living in the age of technology, being able to have these learning tablets would allow all of my students, to enjoy learning and playing educational apps. The downloadable apps they have now are amazing learning tools. The apps are designed to help students on all academic levels. They would challenge my students who are above grade level and need challenging. They would also help my other learners who need that extra support. Due to the cost of these tablets, many of my students may not otherwise ever be exposed to them. My students love using our desktop computers, however I only have three in my class, and they are extremely old. Due to over enrollment of students in our school, our computer lab had to be taken away this year and used as a homeroom classroom. Now the students do not have a computer lab day. Having these tablets in my room would provide an amazing learning opportunity for them using technology!

This project will make a substantial difference in the learning lives of my students!

These tablets will not only help to increase their academic levels and abilities, but their love for learning as well. They will also provide my students with the opportunity to expand their skills in technology education.
