My second-grade students are excited to learn new things and are eager to put their newly learned skills to good use. They love engaging in technology-based learning but are limited by the lack of school resources. My class is an Integrated Co-Teaching class which means that 40% of my students are classified as special education students. Differentiation through technology and leveled printed materials offer an alternate learning opportunity for my students that learn a little differently or require extra support.
Everyone learns differently and my students need their chance to show what they can do.
They meet every challenge thrown at them with an inquisitive nature I have come to truly admire. I want to expand their horizons and provide classwork that will make them feel successful.
My Project
When the world stopped moving, everyone was impacted. My students' lives were turned upside down due to the pandemic. In an effort to facilitate our move to remote learning, my school lent out all of our technology to the students. Families had trouble navigating through the websites and completing the distance learning assignments. Not being able to help them face to face created many difficulties and resulted in missed opportunities for instruction.
Technology has evolved into a vital component of education, especially in these uncertain times.
With the new school year, we have adopted a blended model which means that the children will still need the school’s devices to work from home three days a week. I am requesting 10 tablets for my classroom so I can teach my students how to properly navigate through the sites they will see at home. This will ease the transition for the days that they are learning from home, especially if we need to ever go fully remote again. In addition, the tablets would give us access to valuable tools and resources that can supplement and enhance in person learning.
