Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach energetic kindergarteners at a Title 1 school on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. This is the first school experience for many of our kindergarten students. We learn best by providing fun and engaging activities for our students when they are reading, writing, doing math, learning their letters etc. Our students are in need of essential resources and materials that will benefit their educational growth in this grade.

Our school is truly a barrier free school, serving all students who walk through the doors.

Almost 10% of our students are English language learners and 33% are students with disabilities. Almost half of our students stay in after-school until after 5 PM each day while their parents work.

My Project

These tablets will get students excited and motivated to read in the classroom. Students will be provided with concrete experiences to read with books. With the help of tablets in the classroom, students will be provided with a reading program catered to their specific learning needs. The teacher will then be able to group the students and meet with them according to the growth of the student's reading, which is recorded on the tablet. Students will be able to play games, read stories and get helpful strategies to increase their independence when reading books. Please help my students get excited about reading!
