My Students

Hello! I'm a 5th grade English and Language Arts teacher with a wide variety of students. I have English language learners, English as a second language, and special education students all included in my group of 45 students (two different classes).

My school is also a Title I school, meaning that most students receive free or reduced price lunch.

Within that dynamic, Hurricane Harvey hit our school community hard, and many families are still picking up the pieces (and will be for awhile).

My Project

About a third of my students are English Language Learners or English as a Second Language students. At times, I see them struggle to find words to be able to express themselves in English and struggle to completely understand what I am saying to them, even in small group situations.

Tablets help students use translation services through reading or speaking, and they also have apps that will help students get a hold of basic English words and phrases.

Students will be able to use the tablets as auditory support (with headphones), written translation support, and to be able to use apps to build English capabilities.
