This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of my first DonorsChoose projects allowed me to obtain a set of tablet computers that we used for augmented reality in my anatomy classes and some data analysis using Vernier probes. Those tablets are now ten years old! They are past their update and patch points.

This set of new tablets will continue me to allow students to use state-of-the-art apps for data collection and analysis.

Specifically, I would install both the Vernier and Pasco collection and analysis apps for use with those types of sensors and probes. I would also install the Seek by iNaturalist app for our ecology and natural selection units, as well as for use during our meaningful watershed educational experience (MWEE). Alongside Seek, there is a local app called Creek Critters we'd use during the MWEE. I already have an iNaturalist project set up for organisms discovered around the school and nearby stream, and this would allow more observations to be added.

Lastly, the cameras on modern tablets can be used in conjunction with microscopes to help with further magnification and identification. Our microscopes aren't digital, and students already try to take photos with their cell phones in order to more easily ask me questions about what they are viewing.
